Creating an open plan kitchen

The challenge, to open up three existing rooms and create one large open plan kitchen, with a dining and sitting area, bringing in light and keeping the kitchen area practical was crucial in the planning.

The colour scheme

I started with three vintage glass pendant lamps as my colour source and used them as inspiration throughout, bringing in pattern, texture and colour to give the room personality. The design includes mismatched painted wood cupboard units and a mix of corian and wood worktops creating a warm and practical space. The island area is the working engine of the room around which everything revolves, the shape was crucial to the flow of the room.

This project transformed the space from three tricky rooms to one large family kitchen including an eating and sitting area leading onto a deck creating an inside/outside feel.
