How to add some boho-chic to your home

Having spent 10 days in Ibiza staying in the most beautifully designed house, I am feeling so inspired to add some new boho-chic to my home.

The house was a holiday rental that felt very homely and relaxed and was the perfect way to gain inspiration and new ideas for my own home, especially as I loved their style. It was also great to have the opportunity to try sitting on different shapes and style of sofas and experiencing different room layouts.

An exquisitely modernised Ibizan Finca, all on one level, with 3 bedrooms and an open plan living area. The outside areas felt like a perfect seamless extension from the inside. The house had a lovely relaxed bohemian feel to it with lots of textures and beautiful colours.

The Boho-chic interior style is a modern blend of individual relaxed styling, incorporating pattern with wonderful colours adding in vintage eclectic pieces, natural materials along with great craftsmanship and sprinkled with lots of personal cultural and unconventional detail.

As soon as we walked in the open plan main living room the striking sofa caught my eyes, a Roche Bobois sofa from the exquisite Mah Jong collection, such an eye-catching design in an inviting comfy shape. Each chair was a different colour and texture adding to the fabulous design. Being a low seating design, you couldn't help but sink into the plush soft seat.

Across from the Roche Bobois sofa were two black Barcelona Chairs by Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich, a tribute to the marriage of modern design and exceptional craftsmanship. I also loved the geometric multi coloured cushions added to tie the chairs in with the patterns on the sofas. The mix of luxury boho sofa and the modern functional Barcelona chairs worked so well and I loved the luxurious but relaxed feel.

I like getting into the story of the house I am staying in, it's fun, a little like the programme Through the keyhole, guessing what type of person lives there! Thinking about how they began their design journey and what key features they chose as their starting point.

Therefore, I was intrigued by the gallery style wall open with box style shelving to create feature boxes filled with vintage typewriters, sculptures and other eclectic pieces locally found, a great way to showcase their boho style. A similar authentic place to find vintage pieces is at the Arthur Swallow fairs held at various locations around the UK, where you can always find an original quirky gem.

In the kitchen, I was particularly drawn to the soft formed polished concrete island and surfaces. Super smooth, a simple summer holiday kitchen.

Out through the sliding windows that felt almost like you were looking out into an extension of the sitting area was a large day bed and sequined pouffes to sit/lie and read all day in the shade under the leaf-covered pergola.

To top it off there was also a swinging chair hammock that hung from the outdoor ceiling. A similar version can be found at ellajames.co.uk.

The outdoor area lived and breathed plants, you felt part of the garden as it enveloped you whether on the daybed or down by the relaxing pool.

As I'm sure you can hear I have slightly fallen in love with this house and its bohemian charm. Sadly I know half the charm was the location, the warmth and the style of house built in the area. I know I can't recreate the style in my Edwardian house in Bath but I can take the charm and relaxed colourful craftsmanship and work with moving a few things around and adding in some of the feelings that the house created.

Lastly, one of the traditional sculptures I always see in every Ibizan home is buddha, I have one in my own home and I love what they represent, helping to bring peace, harmony and positive energy into your home and I would recommend everyone have one.
