Transform your Home with Style and Confidence - Part 1

A Step-by-Step Guide to Starting Your Interior Design Journey

Congratulations on making the decision to start a renovation project! Now comes the exciting part - making the space truly your own.

Where should you start, though? Do you know your interior style or how to plan around your budget?

To set you off on the right track, in our next two blogs, we’re sharing three essential stages that you should focus on before you start your renovations to make sure it all runs as smoothly as possible. No matter how small or large your interior project is, doing things in this order will mean ending up with a space you absolutely love.

Plan your home interior project

First things first, there is some planning to do. The planning and preparation stage is a vital step that will give a clear framework for your renovation's practical elements, from your design to your tradesman, to the budget.

Whether it’s a large or small interior project or it’s a new or old property, here are the things I’d recommend you plan and prepare for at this stage.

What help do you need? This could be architects, builders, or tradesmen.

  • A design brief. Consider your time, lifestyle, material choices, longevity and environmental impact.

  • A build brief. Meet with the necessary trades so they know your vision and can give you more accurate information on the project.

  • A layout plan. Choose the configuration and factor in the light and vista before you decide on your furniture positions.

A project and budget plan. You have to be realistic about your budget and know exactly how much things will cost. Your design brief will guide you to see the timelines and keep track of expenses. Learn more with our Plan and Prepare course.
